Master of Education in Educational Counseling

School/Division: Rossier School of Education

Degree/Certificate: Masters

The Master of Education in Educational Counseling (EC) is a non-licensure program, designed for individuals seeking career or advancement opportunities in two and four-year postsecondary institutions, with a focus on academic counseling and advising. The program blends a counseling-based theoretical foundation with practical applications in student affairs to prepare practitioners who promote and facilitate educational attainment. Students who seek to work in the K-12 setting, in addition to two and four-year postsecondary institutions, can apply at the end of their EC degree to complete additional units in the Master of Education in School Counseling online program.  After candidates complete the required Credential coursework, they are then recommended for a California Pupil Personnel Services school counseling (PPS-SC) credential. The PPS-SC credential is required when applying to be a school counselor in a public school in the state of California. A California credential, if earned, can be a competitive factor when applying for reciprocity in another state.
