School/Division: Keck School of Medicine
Degree/Certificate: Medical Doctor
The Keck School of Medicine’s Doctor of Medicine program offers a rich educational experience with an expansive and diverse curriculum, which stimulates students not only to become extraordinary physicians and physician scientists, but also, extraordinary individuals. Our curriculum has a holistic approach to learning that prepares our students to explore and experience medicine both in the classroom and in a real-world setting. We offer various combined degrees including MD-MPH, MD-MBA, and MD-PhD.
Our innovative Physician – Citizen – Scholar curriculum integrates the study of clinical science with basic science and provides for close work with faculty mentors. Students receive rich and well-rounded education to prepare them to be outstanding physicians, effective leaders, collaborative and impactful members of teams and society, and capable of scientific discovery. Students are immersed in clinical settings early in their training and learn from seeing patients at more than a dozen affiliated hospitals, including Keck Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and LAC+USC Medical Center, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the nation. The diversity of Los Angeles provides Keck School of Medicine students with unrivaled experiences with a wide range of clinical cases and the privilege of caring for disadvantaged and underserved populations.
Completion of the Doctor of Medicine degree program will allow you to apply for a post-graduate training position (residency program). Most state medical boards require at least one year of post-graduate training to be eligible to apply for a medical license. State specific licensure requirements can be found on the website of the Federation of State Medical Boards.
