School Leadership Academy

School/Division: Rossier School of Education

Degree/Certificate: Certificate and Recommendation for Credential

The School Leadership Academy prepares teachers, counselors, and other educational professionals to take on administrative and leadership positions at a school site level. The Preliminary Administrative Service Credential (PASC) is required to hold an administrative position in California public schools.

This fully online program is led by experienced and successful school administrators who guide working professional throughout the 15-month online, evening program.  Candidates draw from research, practice, and their own experiences as educators and work collaboratively to develop effective and sustainable strategies for school leadership. The curriculum is aligned to the California Administrators Content Expectations (CACE) and the California Administrators Performance Expectations (CAPE), which have the following focus areas:

  • Development and Implementation of a Shared Vision
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Management and Learning Environment
  • Family and Community Engagement
  • Ethics and Integrity
  • External Context and Policy

You will learn frameworks for problem-solving, how to use data to make decisions, how to supervise and evaluate teaching and learning, how to navigate political, cultural and community relations to get things done, how to use social media to reach your community groups and how to work with your community to enhance school resources.  All of this is applied during a two-term fieldwork study at your current school site.

The USC Rossier School Leadership Academy Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Program meets all requirements of the California Teachers Credentialing Commission (CTC). Successful completion of the program and all CA required prerequisites, including passing all three California Administrator Performance Assessment (CalAPA) Leadership Cycles, results in our recommendation to the CTC for the candidate’s Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) in the state of California.
